Dr. Schuyler Jones, CBE, studied Social Anthropology at Edinburgh and later went to Oxford to write his doctoral thesis. He lived and carried out research in Afghanistan for much of the period from 1958 to 1970. He taught Cultural Anthropology at Oxford University for thirty years while serving as a curator in the Pitt Rivers Museum. He was director of the museum and Head of Department at Oxford for 12 years until his retirement in 1997.  His numerous publications include books and articles on Africa, Afghanistan, and Tibet.
